Food Pantry

Cal Poly Food Pantry

The Food Pantry was created out of a need identified by faculty and staff who were seeing an increased number of students going hungry and without the means to purchase basic food and supplies. Cal Poly community members can choose from a wide variety of packaged and canned foods, fresh produce, frozen meals, and personal hygiene products.

Accessing the Cal Poly Food Pantry

All students are welcome to access the Food Pantry! During the summer months (June through September), please be ready to swipe your Poly ID or enter your Cal Poly email at check in. As of June 10, 2022, Health & Wellbeing no longer requires a "green campus pass" for entry; unless meeting one-on-one in a private office, where a staff member may request to see a campus pass. Due to the location of the Food Pantry in the lower level of the Health Center, masks are still required for entry. Masks are available for free at the Wellbeing Services front desk (Food Pantry check-in).

Partnerships with the Food Pantry

The Food Pantry welcomes partnership opportunities and as of the 2021-22 Academic year works closely with the following community and Cal Poly departments: SLO Food Bank, Cal Poly CROPS Unit, Student Experimental Farm, CalFresh, Student Diversity and Belonging, Dean of Students, The Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships, Educational Outreach Program (EOP) and TRiO Achievers.

Where does the food come from?

Majority of the food in the Cal Poly Food Pantry comes from the SLO Food Bank, where the Cal Poly Food Pantry is a regulated, agency partner. Local produce is supplied weekly from the Cal Poly CROPS unit. VitCo, a partner of Campus Dining and Cal Poly Corporation, donates heat-to-eat meals The Food Pantry also participated in a food rescue program with Bellevue-Santa Fe Charter Elementary School. Additionally, generous donations from local grocers California Fresh Market and Grocery Outlet has allowed for biweekly, customized shopping in the pantry. Lastly, community members are welcome to donate to the Food Pantry and as a result, there is a robust inventory of food and personal hygiene items.

Volunteer Opportunities with the Food Pantry

Every Wednesday, we rely on our thriving volunteer community to assist in the restocking and tidying of the Cal Poly Food Pantry. Nearly 1000 lbs of food is ordered weekly to ensure every Mustang has timely access to food on campus. During the summer months (June through September), there is no open sign-up for volunteering at the Food Pantry. Students who are on-campus and interested in assisting are welcome to email Kari Howell directly to see about a time to help: khowel02@calpoly.edu.

Food Pantry staff have curated a list of commonly requested items, as well as items that we cannot otherwise source to supplement Food Pantry inventory. If you would like to donate to the Food Pantry, simply click below to access the Food Pantry's Amazon Wishlist. The wishlist automatically populates delivery instructions and typically takes about 2-4 days to be delivered on site.
